Yoro Art Picnic(2019)

The Site of Reversible Destiny is the location of the famous Yoro Waterfall, with more than 1,300 years of history, and is considered holy ground for modern art. This year as well, this beautiful venue will host the Yoro Art Picnic.

The theme this year, which marks the event’s 3rd anniversary, will be “Smile Sharing.” Please experience the excitement of various art events while picnicking in the park, and occasionally, please enjoy meeting and interacting with the artists and others gathered at the events while leisurely experiencing the natural environment.

We are looking forward to seeing your wonderful smiles at this event.

Event Overview  ~Objective~

This art event is held in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (hereafter IAMAS) based on Gifu Prefecture’s “City Park Revitalization Initiative” and in line with Yoro park’s founding principle: “pray for health and longevity, and follow the course of nature and history filled with appreciation for life.

 

〜 Art Project 〜

  
1 Gamelan Non-stop

A concert by a gamelan Indonesian folk music ensemble. From classical Java music to works by modern composers, physical performances and experiences for visitors, a broad range of expressiveness will unfold.
 

2 Community Space "Parameter Terace"

As a rest spot used for strolls and cycling and a community space where people can interact, a pavilion like a wooden terrace with charging and a toolbox for repairs will appear.

 

3 Let's create your "doppelgAngeR"

"Standing on the ceiling, sinking into the walls, and popping out of holes in the gourd... Try taking a mysterious video in the pavilion using the latest AR technology to transform into a different self! It might look good on SNS!

 

4 Welcome you with Gourd Arts

"With the ""gourd"", the symbol of the Yoro as its motif, there will be lots of unique gourd art waiting for you made by the local people and participating artists within the park.

 

5 Quiz rally around the gourd arts

"This is a fun game where you answer quiz questions while looking at all the gourd art surrounding you in Yoro Park. Please enjoy the abundant nature of Yoro Park with the autumn wind blowing.

 

6 Let ’s dance Hyotan Boogie with Q-TARO

"The popular Q-TARO will perform a new dance arrangement to the Showa era hit ""Gourd Boogie"" which is related to Yoro with unique choreography. Please enjoy the unique dancing with everyone featuring gourds and Yoro's waterfall!

 

7 TOMASON LAND

"Pop and cynical monsters will appear in ""TOMASON LAND"" which will arrive in Yoro with the theme of ""smile sharing"", completely covering one corner of the Yoro Art Picnic.

 

8 Akira Hirota s picture book world“Flock”

"In Children's Land the world of Akira Hirota's picture book ""Mure"" will appear! Please enjoy having a picnic in the park, reading the picture book, and joining with every to draw a giant picture of a ""Mure"" together!

 

9 Reversible Destiny Talk –Arakawa, Madeline, and Site of Reversible Destiny Yoro Park

"How did Yoro's Site of Reversible Destiny come about? This will be a valuable talk welcoming Shunkichi Baba who has a deep and friendly relationship with ARAKAWA + GINS both publicly and privately covering the stages of conception up to the subsequent housing construction and incomplete grand town-building.

 

10 Architectural Tour: Discover the site of Reversible Destiny, YORO !

A tour where you will encounter various mysteries at Yoro Site of Reversible Destiny, led by Megumi Hirabayashi, who worked for 10 years as the exclusive curator of the Yoro Site of Reversible Destiny, and Mr. Matsuda from the ARAKAWA + GINS Tokyo office.

 

11 Wonder Tour @Site of Reversible Destiny Yoro Park

"In this tour you will have an ""expedition"" into the Site of Reversible Destiny with Dr. Yoshiharu Sekino, explorer and anthropologist known for the ""Great Journey"" where he followed the approximately 53,000km path that the human race born in Africa used to cross all the way to the southern tip of the Americas.
